📗 Crackseed Cypher Descendents Historia

The Crackseed Cypher journeys through the waters as it breaks through the perils of the islands of Hawaii and past any of its borders throughout the Pacifika and even beyond it. There are multiple storylines, chronicling their different fates, where outcomes are part of the whole.

Is it the struggles, is it the realness of it all, the courage to face wisdom, or is it the growth of power? What reason for existence is sometimes never known, but the person themselves, but one thing is certain is that the island tells its own story as it ages.

The Encyclopedia is a guide to the events in Crackseed Cypher series with date, framed by key settings, characters, creatures, cultures, and items.

These pages will reveal the memories of the past and deepen the lore behind the ever evolving, ever growing, and further reaching to audiences. Leaps in technology, world events, and developments further the context of past and present stories to be told.

This section covers in-world contents that connect one story to another as they overlap, go back and forth, and promote one another, either together, or even as their own.

1795 A.D. — Kingdom of Hawaii

The unified Hawaiian Kingdom under Kamehameha I. The foundation from which all history in this world flows.

1804 A.D. — The Holaʻe Descendants

The Holaʻe descendants begin working with energy that comes from the land — mana, the literal heartbeat of the volcanic islands that flows through living beings. They realize the islands are not just land. They are part of a communication system with the land itself. The first documented understanding of mana as infrastructure rather than mythology.

❖ This is the root of the magic system. Mana was always real. The corporations just learned to extract it.

1845 A.D. — The Voyage of the Government

The Hawaiian Kingdom moved from Kailua-Kona on the Big Island to Maui in 1820. Years past and in 1845 Honolulu known as the Sheltered bay would be the next modern Capital on Oahu. With this came a form of Native Hawaiian City Design and a mix between Western Grid-style Urbanization. With the limit of the land that was available the residential areas would be not centralized grid systems, but mixed-use developments and commercial districts. As it continued to adapt to Paris and London there were further codified Urban planning, building regulations, and zoning codes. The reason for this was that the land wouldn't allow things like racial motivations, or class, and status would wreck the sustainable, walkable, money makers that were on the lower parts of the mountain. Places where it was flat would use these old residential districts to build very tall buildings as they stayed in close quarters.

❖ The DNA of Mega Honolulu's vertical density begins here. Not from corporate ambition but from the shape of the land itself.

1861 A.D. — The Sunrise of Thermo: The Rejected of the Underworld

An Army of the “American Freedom Confederacy” , an army of liberators, is standing just as a mountain of dead bodies lay below them. There is a one Hawaiian that runs through the mountains, bloodiness awaits as gunfire goes through his body, reaching out he grasps on to life, only to take his last breath being shot by a rifleman to the heart. The “Koa” Hawaiian warrior is rejected from death and is stuck buried in a cave that has been blessed by the gods. After taking over the land of the gods the battle over the riches of Thermo power has ended and the energy supply of Hawaii’s heat creates an enormous supply as earth destroys and recreates everything in its wake.

1893 A.D. —[The Overthrow of the Provisional Government]

The 1893 coup by the “Committee of Safety” was prevented— as Japan had their own ideas as they had a large established naval presence in Pearl Harbor to "protect Imperial interests".

1898 A.D. — Gateway to the Americas — The Rope of Hope

February 10, 1898, Prince Higashifushimi Yorihito of the Fushimi no miya Branch of the Imperial Family had married Princess Kaiulani, the daughter of King Kalakaua who was supportive of Meiji. It had created a rope of hope in creating a voice to a possible alliance between Japan and Hawaii through the royal family. It was a tough choice as there were other suitors who were waiting for his hand as a possible marriage, such as: Iwakura Kaneko. Emperor Meiji had one son who was very sickly after he was born, there was also a group of assassins that attempted to assassinate Emperor Meiji. The Imperial family needed to raise its strength in order to not die out, but just in case the Meiji prepared for a possible ascendency of the Fushimi branch in its place. If the Fushimi branch had ascended, Kalakaua's proposal would become more clear as to produce many heirs, but there was an argument of the mainline of the Imperial family to be purely Japanese. Kaiulani was half-Scottish, which left traditionalists in the Imperial Household Ministry (Kunaicho) into political outrage.

For the first time, a Western-educated, part-Hawaiian woman sits on the Chrysanthemum Throne, Kaiulani becomes the first Hawaiian Empress of Japan, she comes down wearing a gown of heavy Japanese silk embroidered with yellow ʻilima flowers. She speaks perfect, courtly Japanese, but her presence—tall, sharp-witted, and an expert of European, Americas, and Japanese policy — shatters the image of the "hidden" Empress.

The prince started early to ensure an heir was born to prevent government destabilization, but also that a family was a sign of the divine, and harder to end the dynasty. This would solidify the Japanese-Hawaiian alliance— is up against the wall as the “Rope of Hope”, the idea that you can save Hawaii and Japan through diplomacy, infrastructure, and the divine right of the family. She shows strength is her unwavering duty to her people.

The Fushimi branch markets their many children as "Living Gifts of the Sunset" that shows the approval of the gods. The empress saw it as a duty to protect her people and the prince believed to ensure power to the government goes to his family heirs. Her position is precarious. If she only has one child, and that child is assassinated or dies of illness (like Meiji’s first son), the Hawaii-Japan alliance dies with them. A rebel faction grows as politically they wage attacks against Yorihito as they enter a time that ends the times of peace. Yorihito starts to strategize as if it is full-scale war and starts playing a dangerous game where he allows the faction to grow just enough that he can "justifiably" crush them and the traditionalists in one fell swoop, securing Kaiulani's throne as an act of public display.

As Japan started to build further infrastructure, the U.S. would see this as a direct violation of the Monroe Doctrine. The Japanese military—pro-Imperialists versus ultra-nationalist traditionalists were divided into two factions: “The Fushimi Government” and the “The Haganenogi” (The Justice of Steel) where the philosophy is “The Rope of Hope is a noose, only steel is certain”. They view the Fushimi-Kaiulani alliance as a "perfumed weakness" that will leave Japan and Hawaii vulnerable to the Americans. There would be further assassination attempts and rebel samurai as well as government workers who would use this opportunity to start a Japanese Civil War or a series of "palace incidents" to have a chance at redirecting Japan’s fate. The romance between the two is forged in the heat of the "Palace Incidents". Every time they survive an assassination attempt, it bonds them closer, as they call it an end at six-children. The act of creating a large family is their defiance. It’s their way of telling the Haganenogi: "You can try to cut the rope, but we will keep braiding it thicker."

The Pacific War— 1899 (ref. 1941 Pacific War). U.S. Washington is watching and are waiting for the Haganenogi to destabilize the Fushimi Government so they can step in to "restore order" (and take both the islands and Japan). Washington sends the "Patriot Freedom Fleet" (early version of the Great White Fleet) to "protect American citizens" from the "Haganenogi rebels", but everyone knows they are there to dismantle the Fushimi-Kaiulani throne. Yorihito realizes he has to fight a two-front war. He has to crush the Haganenogi internal threat while holding off the U.S. Navy. The birth of the sixth child happens just as the first American shells hit the coast of Oahu and the braiding of the rope gets ever more tight.

❖ This Pacific War of 1899 is the founding trauma of the political world of Crackseed Cypher.

1914 A.D. — World War I

Details in development. Hawaii and Japan navigate the first World War as a unified political entity for the first time.

1939 A.D. — World War II

Details in development.

1946 A.D. — The Great Hilo Tsunami

The great Tsunami destroyed most of Hilo, then the War 60% of the Big Island got attacked by Aerial raids by the U.S. and they were forced to rebuild. Many believe that is the reason for a post-war Hawaii would look like. All property owners had to give in 15% of their earnings known as "Hawaii Metropolitan Tax". The government didn't have the funds to get anything done and many companies and people had very nationalistic, ideal, and unsustainable thoughts in mind and never acted on them. While the tension was rising between people and government, neither could really move the people with ways of power.

People who had great visions had widely left the Hawaiian islands for a better life on mainland Japan or the mainland of the United States, but the ones who stayed remained in construction work, physical labor, craft stores, and small restaurants. While people continued to argue, the remaining residents rebuilt their homes in Hawaii, self governed on mutual aid networks, cooperative labor and broke the law. The rigidity of a set government wasn't strong enough to enforce the people from building. Since property owners were being taxed on "earnings" and "land footprint," they cheated the system by building up, not out. They built minimalist foundations to minimize the taxable land area but then expanded the buildings horizontally once they reached 50 feet in the air—creating a "Canopy City" that shades the streets below.

❖ The Canopy City is the physical origin of the vertical megacity. Mega Honolulu's density wasn't engineered by corporations. It was built by people refusing to be crushed by a system they couldn't afford to obey.

1947 A.D. — The Kānāwai Law of Water

Instead of waiting for a city-wide sewage and water plan, neighborhoods dug their own modernized Auwai. A limited Hydro-network that diverted a portion, let it flow through the patches to nourish the plants, and then returned the water to the stream further down. The people realized the failures of the government plumming system was too expensive. They realized that the "Western" style of closed-pipe plumbing was too expensive to maintain. The ʻAuwai are filled with bio-engineered cleaner bombs, moss, oysters, fermented beans, and freshwater shrimp that clean the urban runoff. By the time the water hits the harbor, it is as pure as when it left the mountains.

❖ The Auwai system is still visible in the lower districts of Mega Honolulu. Ancient water management technology running underneath corporate megastructure.

1959 A.D. — Hawaii Becomes a Prefecture

The year 1959 arrived not with a celebration, but with a silent, bureaucratic chill. For decades, the "Rope of Hope" had been the only thing keeping the Pacific from tearing itself apart—a delicate braid of Hawaiian sovereignty and Imperial Japanese protection. But as the clock struck midnight in the new era, the "Rope" tightened. The Decree of 1959 was signed in a room filled with the scent of expensive ink and iced kawa, far removed from the salt-spray of the docks. With a single stroke of a brush, the Kingdom was rebranded. It was no longer a sovereign ally; it was "Prefecture 48."

Empress Kaulani, age 85, would be the last living link to the "Old Order" that Kekuewa Pedals is trying to document. She is the only person who truly remembers what the air tasted like before the Thermo-Grid turned the islands into an unstable mana source of heat. To the historians it was a masterpiece of "Accidental Colonialism", they theorized that the islands had become too valuable, a geothermal battery so vital to the Imperial engine that the state could no longer afford the "instability" of independence. They called it the Great Assimilation Strategy as they continued to argue if the 1899 war had never really ended—it had simply moved into the ledgers. By making Hawaii a Prefecture, they legally dissolved the bloodlines and turned the people to maintain the grid.

Kekuewa Pedals, a man living in a city that had decided his past was "Information Contraband." Because Hawaii was now a Prefecture, history was centralized, sanitized, and scrubbed of its "Hawaiian-Japanese" complexity. Funding for research wasn't just cut; it was criminalized. To study the "Old Order" was to be labeled a criminal of the “Hawaiian Liberation movement”. The tragedy of the "Resource Curse" is that the transition was designed specifically to secure the closure of Mana access at any cost, so that energy could be extracted. As the spirits screamed in the heat of the mountains, the government turned up the volume of the technology-development to drown them out. In the end, 1959 was the moment the Kingdom’s heart stopped beating and the machine took over. Kekuewa fought against the direct results of that administrative theft. To the world, Hawaii was a success story of modern integration.

❖ 1959 is the moment the Kingdom's heart stopped beating and the machine took over. Everything in Mega Honolulu is built on the foundation of this administrative theft.

1960 A.D. — Flame Pedals of Destiny — Kekuewa Pedals

Kekuewa Pedals lives in the spaces between the wires — behind on rent and on life, the sole caretaker for a mother whose mind is as fractured as the trauma of the Great Tsunami. He writes anyway. Relentlessly humiliated by the general public. His work is the voice of everyone the state tried to silence.

"A rope that doesn't just hold us together, but one that lets us climb. The sun is setting on the old world, but if we're brave enough, we can make sure the dawn belongs to us."

Kekuewa's mother spent her life as a heartbeat for the grid. She found a seed — a single preserved piece that connected her to what seemed like another dimension.

❖ Kekuewa Pedals is a candidate for Group Lead of Wound 01 — Inherited Obligation.

1981 A.D. — The Unstable Viper Network

The start of the "Cypher"—the building of an altar space of commercialism where it bled past the internet and into something seemingly more. This was not a grand war of steel, but a place between the digital and the real, where mythical things became possible. The "Viper Network" became the shadow-grid where the preserved truths of Kekuewa and the dimensional seed of Kekuewa's mother began to bloom. He would be removed from those worked under an investment giant that had bought out multiple government officials and made sure that he was silenced. He had fought to the death with one of his closest friends by unleashing powerful attacks of mana never seen before as it was the power of “” and ““. Taking out a couple of battalions allowed for his friends to survive and take his research over to a Hawaiian based religious institution called the”Congregation of Fa'asamoa”. The notes were given to the group as a way to archive and protect it under the Matai Luakoa (Chiefly Lua Warriors) and in archives run by the “Nuns”.

1984 A.D.  — [Birth of Hawaiian Citypop Music Genre]

Citypop was introduced through a collaboration of a dubbing of “Sparkle” from the Father of City Pop, Tatsurō Yamashita album “For You” (1982) with Local Group “Greenwood”. It would be tied to Hawaii’s Prosperity with Hawaii Nightlife that talks about Urban Nightlife experience, neon lights, driving around the city, and having money to spend with love in the faceless crowds of third-space gathering places. [Death of Citypop]

1997 A.D. — [Hawaii Reaches 10 Million Residents]

Historians of this time pointed to the "Hawaiian-Japanese blood" Kekuewa wrote about, as well as others who documented, and old university records from Japan. They argued that the Prefecture status was a way to legally "dilute" Hawaiian sovereignty by making it a sub-unit of a distant Imperial seat. It’s the same way historians look at the annexation of Okinawa or the status of Puerto Rico—a "participation" that feels a lot like an "occupation", but the Kingdom remains intact. As for the Kingdom, the high counsel had believed that Hawaii’s "military-base of strategic importance" made it impossible for the Kingdom to remain truly independent. In their view, the 1959 Prefecture status was the government's way of securing the energy supply. They would write papers on how to extract the island's natural heat for the benefit of the Japanese mainland and protection negotiations of the United States.
